Meet Carmilla Voiez, Best selling Author of Starblood!

Why don’t you tell us a little bit about yourself Carmilla?

Sure, I’m 5’4” with dark hair and blue eyes… that isn’t what you want to hear about? I’m a horror and erotica writer. I’m a goth, a feminist and a mum of two. I live in Scotland and I won Horror Author of the Year, 2013.

When did you first start writing ?

I wrote stories and poems in my childhood. However, I began to write novels in 2009.

What do you love about writing?

I love the freedom to express everything you need others to hear, while entertaining them and letting them fall for wonderfully complex characters, all within 80,000 words. Writing is therapeutic. Sometimes it can be painful and traumatic, but that’s when it’s most cathartic.

What do you need when writing? Music, candy, silence, etc.

Coffee and cigarettes, oh no, I have vices. Sometimes I use music and other times silence. It depends on the scene and my mood.

How did you go about building your world and characters?

In “Starblood” the first book of my trilogy, most of the action happens in the real world, so I would say I reflected rather than built that world. My characters build themselves. I start with a very loose idea of who they are, which builds to a knowledge of them inside and out as the story develops and they react to different situations.

Can we have a sneak peek of Starblood?

Satori stands in the centre of his bedroom. His fingers and the lace cuffs of his shirt are stained from the charcoal he uses to scribble his messages. Markings cover every surface: the bare floorboards, ceiling and walls. Even his wardrobe and door are covered in intricate black symbols.

He unbuttons his shirt, swearing as he leaves fingerprints on the cotton. After tossing the garment on to his bed, he unzips his jeans, and forces the denim over his legs and to the floor. Standing naked, he smells himself. There is no trace of her scent on his body. Realizing this feels like losing her all over again.

His fragile-looking, angular body is lost in the forest of writing. It expands around him, a web of ancient knowledge. The tips of his fingers prickle with energy. He pulls the silver rings from his fingers. Pushing back his shoulder-length hair, he removes the hoops from his left ear, and finally the silver stud from his sharply pointed nose. His jewelry jingles like tiny bells as he throws it on to the bed. They look like distant stars on the midnight duvet cover.

Across his pillow, dozens of photographs lie like fallen leaves. Some are intact but most are torn or defaced. Her face holds his thoughts for a moment, pale and perfect, framed by a mass of ebony curls. He shakes his head to clear her image. After this is over he will make her love him again. Maybe she will beg for his forgiveness. A wolfish grin grows across his face at the thought of Star on her knees, begging him to take her back. He licks his lips. His face feels hot, his body cold. In spite of his impatience to start the ritual, he waits. Sucking deep breaths in through his nostrils, he collects his thoughts—he mustn’t rush. He must be in control of himself and his desires.

That sounds Fantastic! :D I can't wait to read it!

Fun time!
Do you play games? If so what kind? If not, why the heck not?

Are we talking games with kids, if so yes, absolutely: board games, language games. adventure games and treasure hunts, among others. If you’re talking about games with adults, I’m pretty honest and straight forward, so certainly not mind games, but others, sometimes.

I'm a big fan of board games myself! :D

An unending supply of water and shade and lots of books.

If you traveled back in time, what time period would you want to visit most? Who would you hope to meet?
I’d love to check out the Victorian era, though I would not like to have lived then. I’d love to chin wag with the Bronte sisters.
